Content Viewer

The content viewer displays user documents within the web browser being used.  The viewer displays many different types of documents not typically displayed by other learning management systems (LMSs) without some third party plugin or special coding.  Most LMSs force the user to download files to view them, unless the files are in the PDF format.

One of the drawbacks of this tool is the fact it blocks all of the hyperlinks on documents being displayed by the viewer.  This will be addressed in future posts.

The content viewer displays the following files types within the recommended browsers:

  • PDF
  • Word Processing
    • .doc
    • .docs
    • .txt
    • .rtf
  • PowerPoint
    • .ppt
    • .pptx
  • Images
    • .png
    • .jpg
    • .gif
  • Video
    • .mp4
    • .swf
